((OOC - Fic rec!))
May. 24th, 2010 12:43 pm((OOC - I don't usually recommend stuff because everyone has such different tastes and I don't really stick to one pairing and blah blah blah. But I pretty much LOVE this story and the other stories offered up in this journal with this pairing (I haven't read her other stuff so I don't know if I love that stuff yet). There's no tags or I'd just link you to all of the Cupcake/Chekov stuff.
That's right, I said Cupcake/Chekov.
Cupcake
I'm not a real big fan of the actor who played Cupcake in the movie - just because he isn't my particular brand of meathead. But I love the character this writer has created and I love the reminder that Cupcake was, in that bar, telling a drunk who was harrassing a woman who'd already said no to back off.
Right now, I'm biting my tongue before writing a lot of stuff about rape culture and women in bars and men policing each other and that sort of thing because maybe a fic rec isn't the place for that conversation.
For the record, there's nothing explicit in this fic (it isn't gen fic, it's just not NC-17). It's just really well written - one of the things that I like about fic is how it can catch me off guard with how true it feels. I would read this sort of story as original fiction, without it being set in the Star Trek universe. But having it in that universe enriches the worldbuilding, gives us little details that just seem to FIT and I love it.
And I love the 4-part story about them meeting each others families, too. And I love Sulu - and I never love Sulu in fic - because he's the kind of friend everyone needs.))

Date: 2010-05-24 07:55 pm (UTC)I also think it's easy to make Sulu a shallow character, because he is such an all around good guy. Now I'm resolved to take it as a challenge to give him some depth. :-)

Date: 2010-05-24 08:01 pm (UTC)I don't usually find Chekov sexy unless it's in a totally pervy way - the wrongity wrong of McCoy/Chekov sometimes appeals to me. But it's straight up AOS Chekov. I love TOS Chekov but Not In That Way.
Now I'm looking forward to your take on Sulu!
